In an article from BBC News, two firms are preparing to mine near earth asteroids by 2016.
David Gump, one of the firms chief executive, said, ""More than 900 new asteroids that pass near Earth are discovered every year. They can be like the Iron Range of Minnesota was for the Detroit car industry last century – a key resource located near where it was needed. In this case, metals and fuel from asteroids can expand the in-space industries of this century,"
A fleet of spaceships dubbed the name 'Fireflies' will be making a test run in 2015 and the company is hopeful that they will be ready to bring back samples to earth by 2016.
